Best Wines Under $15 — A Sommelier's Real Picks

Under $15 doesn't mean settle. My real picks at that price: 13 Celsius Sauvignon Blanc, Alamos Malbec, a Cune or El Coto Rioja Crianza, and any solid Cava. These are wines I open on a Tuesday and don't apologize for. All on the list.

Questions people ask

Can wine under $15 actually be good?

Yes — and often better than $30 bottles from famous regions. Look outside Napa, Bordeaux, and Burgundy. Spain, Portugal, Argentina, and southern Italy all deliver serious quality at $10-$15 because their names don't carry a tax on the label.

What's the best under-$15 red?

A Rioja Crianza or a good Argentine Malbec. Both give you real structure, real fruit, and enough complexity to feel like a $25 bottle. Producers I trust on my list: Alamos, Santa Julia, Cune, El Coto. Widely available at any decent shop.

What's the best under-$15 white?

13 Celsius Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, a Spanish Albarino like Martin Codax or Burgans, or a Verdejo from Rueda. High acid, expressive fruit, food-friendly. These out-punch most $20 California Chardonnays every time.
